Some users recently took it to Reddit forums to complain about their Google Home smart speakers, which became unresponsive or were bricked after a firmware update. This included both Google Home and Google Home Mini speakers. Google did reply in the thread stating that they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. But now, Google India has cleared the air with more details.
In an emailed statement to TOI Tech-Gadgets Now, Google India says that a permanent ‘fix’ is coming soon for affected Google Home and Home mini speakers. The firmware update will prevent future devices from facing this issue as well. For now, users can call customer care and get their devices replaced for free. This program is for all the affected Home speakers.
“We are aware that a small number of Google Home and Google Home Mini devices are affected by an issue that causes the device to stop working. We have a fix that will prevent the issue from happening and will be rolling it out soon. We are replacing affected devices,” said Google spokesperson to TOI Tech-Gadgets Now.
As a reply to a user query on Reddit, Google replied that “We wanted to provide an update here — as others have noted in this thread, the team is aware of these specific issues with both Google Home Minis and Google Home devices becoming unresponsive and we’re actively working on a fix.” The firm added that “It has been very difficult for our team to diagnose this issue and we understand why many of you have been frustrated with this ongoing process. Our support team will be reaching out to customers on this thread via private messaging to further address this issue and come to a resolution.”
If you are one of the affected customers, you can get a temporary fix by rebooting the device or can simply get it replaced.
