Snapchat faces global outage, users unable to send or receive messages

There have been several reports of social media outages in the past week or so, after Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp faced a global outage lasting over 6 hours. In recent news, the rival application, Snapchat, also went through a similar fate.

Social media application Snapchat faced a global outage last night, during which millions of users across several countries were unable to use several features of the app such as sending and receiving messages, uploading posts, and sending photos.

Addressing the issue of the global outage, Snap, which is the parent company of Snapchat, tweeted, “We’re aware that some Snapchatters are having issues using the app right now – hang tight, we’re looking into it!” The problems were resolved within a few hours, as per reports.

According to Down Detector, which is an application dedicated to detecting outages, nearly 41 percent of all Snapchat users were unable to send or receive messages while 72 percent of the users were unable to share photos and videos through the app.

Twitter has proved to be a saving grace for avid social media users, as the microblogging site was spammed with memes once again while Snapchat remained down for several users. A Twitter user posted, “Everyone running to Twitter to see if it is not only their Snapchat bugging.”

Down Detector also showed that Facebook and Instagram were facing another outage for several users during the Snapchat outage. The issues on Facebook and Instagram were resolved by the company as the outage didn’t last for a significantly long time.

Facebook has been struggling since the beginning of October, as earlier this month, it, along with Instagram and Whatsapp faced a global outage that lasted about 6 hours, making it one of the longest and widely spread outages in the history of social media.
